There are many ways to remove unwanted body hair. The options vary from shaving to laser hair removal. Each option has its pros and cons, and each patient must obviously decide what he/she is willing to undergo if they feel the hair is a liability for them. But if you are looking to remove hair from large body areas, and even small areas, with the least amount of discomfort and perhaps in the shortest amount of time, laser hair removal is the most hi-tech way to do it, the least complicated and one of the most almost- permanent ways to achieve your goal.
If we look at some of the options available for hair removal such as shaving, waxing, depilatories, they all have aspects in their favor in that they can be done at home, at any time, not expensive if you do it yourself and without the need for appointments. They may give some good results for a short period of time. But they have their own problems also. Depending upon the area the hair is in, you may not be able to shave it or wax it, at least with ease. There may be irritation of the skin after the treatment and if you are a diabetic for example, or if you are using medications for acne, such as the tretinoins, making your skin more sensitive, these options may not be as good for you.
Electrolysis may give good results, but if you have large areas from where you want to remove the hair, for example, your legs or your back, it may become very expensive, time-consuming and painful.
Laser hair removal has become a better option for many people with unwanted hair. Many companies have developed their own version of how to do laser hair removal but in general, the underlying principle for the technique is that the laser beam "looks" for a chromophore, a substance, chemical or pigment to which that particular wavelength of light is attracted to. In this case, it is the pigment of the hair follicle that absorbs a great deal of the energy emitted by the laser. When the laser beam reaches the follicle, most of the energy will reach the hair follicle resulting in over-heating it and subsequently, destroying it. This is the concept of Photothermolysis.
This is the concept that has revolutionized hair removal practices in the last few years. The ease of use, the multiple ways in which it can be done, the long-lasting results, and the very few complications associated with the treatments, have made hair removal much simpler and less traumatic than prior therapies.
